Identifying local leaders

How to identify local leaders

Look for initiative, enthusiasm, and alignment with Logos values during meetups, 1:1s, or volunteering moments. Good potential Circle leads often:

  • Show up consistently and take responsibility

  • Demonstrate an understanding of Logos’ mission and values, incl. Circles.

  • Communicate clearly and respectfully

  • Demonstrate curiosity and emotional intelligence

  • Take initiative or propose useful ideas

  • Are already active in their community or issue space

Pay attention to participants who naturally support others, take notes, or make things happen without being asked. These are often your best leads.

Fostering potential leaders

Once you’ve spotted a promising lead:

  • Start with a 1:1: Get to know their motivation, availability, and interest

  • Give them a small task: Invite them to co-host a Circle, handle outreach, or lead a part of the meetup (like facilitating intros or taking notes)

  • If they succeed, increase the challenge: Ask them to lead a full meetup, coordinate a volunteering day, or scope a winnable issue

  • Always follow up after each test to support and coach them

  • When they’re ready, have an “escalation 1:1” and formally invite them to lead

Motivating leaders

Keeping leads motivated means helping them stay connected to purpose, progress, and people. Key tactics:

  • Recognise their work publicly e.g. shoutouts at meetups or on Discord

  • Provide peer support and mentorship opportunities

  • Celebrate wins, even small ones
